  • Cashew pricing: Govt fixes GHC12/kg after stakeholder negotiations

    Dec 18th, 2025

The government has fixed GHC12.00 per kilogram as the Minimum Producer Price for Raw Cashew Nuts for the 2025/2026 season, following negotiations between state regulators and industry players aimed at balancing farmer welfare and market realities. The decision was taken through the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), acting under powers granted by Act 1010 and its accompanying regulations, which mandate the Authority to regulate pricing for key tree crops. According to the TCDA, the approved price emerged from a stakeholder engagement held in Techiman on December 10, 2025, where farmers, traders, exporters and processors interrogated the pricing formula used to determine producer prices. The formula, based on international Free On Board prices, exchange rate averages and operational costs, yielded an indicative farmgate price of GHC11.157 per kilogram. Despite the technical outcome, stakeholders opted to push for a higher, rounded figure, arguing that a simplified price would better protect farmers’ incomes and reduce disputes at the farmgate. That position was unanimously adopted, leading to government approval of GHC12.00 per kilogram as the official minimum price for the upcoming season. The TCDA said the agreement signals a collective commitment to sustaining the domestic cashew industry while ensuring predictability for buyers and exporters operating in a volatile global market. The Authority also indicated that the price will not be static and will be reviewed periodically to reflect shifts in international prices and exchange rate conditions.
