The Mozambique Almond Institute (IAM, IP) will hold its 1st Technical Council Meeting on August 24th and 25th in the Matutuíne District, Maputo Province, with the objective of evaluating the implementation of the activity plan and discussing the main internal coordination mechanisms. The meeting will be chaired by the Director-General of IAM, IP, Jorge Vidigal Fole. According to the Director-General, the event provides an opportunity to assess the current status of the implementation of the Cashew Value Chain Development Program (PDC) 2025–2034, analyze the progress of the 2026 cashew tree chemical treatment campaign, and harmonize planning and monitoring methodologies. The governor emphasized that the meeting represents an important moment for the consolidation of the 2025-2034 Cashew Development Plan, highlighting the importance that the Government attaches to cashew cultivation, on which approximately 1.047 million producing families depend throughout the country. The Director-General also highlighted the importance of the meeting, which brings together the technical teams from IAM, IP SEDE and the Provincial Delegations to discuss relevant issues related to cashew and macadamia crops, focusing on the main challenges, perspectives and opportunities of the subsector. He stated that the expectation is that the meeting will establish itself as an effective space for open dialogue, sharing of experiences and joint construction of solutions. “We are aware of the challenges facing the agricultural sector in the current situation, marked by rising fuel costs influenced by the international market. However, we believe that holding this event will allow for interaction and the establishment of synergies between the different stakeholders, with a view to responding to the challenges of the subsector and maximizing the use of existing potential and opportunities to increase production and improve quality,” he stated. The Director-General also expressed his expectation that the meeting would result in ideas and proposals that would directly contribute to the continuous improvement of institutional management, as well as suggestions and recommendations capable of strengthening performance in the implementation of the 2025-2034 Strategic Development Plan. In turn, the Permanent Secretary of the Matutuíne District, Shelton Costa, representing the Administrator, welcomed the district's selection to host the 1st Meeting of the IAM, IP Technical Council, highlighting its relevance as a cashew and macadamia producing area in Maputo province and underlining the importance of the topics under discussion for the country's development.
