  • Raw cashew nuts: Togo sets a quota for buyers

    Mar 17th, 2026

According to national authorities, cashew nut producers are now required to deliver to processing units located within the country a quantity representing at least one-third (1/3) of the volume of cashew nuts they have collected or purchased. A delivery receipt or slip, duly approved beforehand by the Togolese Interprofessional Council for the Cashew Sector (CIFAT), is issued by the managers of these units upon delivery of this mandatory quota. "Any authorized cashew nut buyer or any producer cooperative that does not comply with this regulation will be excluded from all sales to exporters for the duration of the current season," state the government. Recently launched in Lomé, the cashew nut marketing campaign has set a minimum farmgate price of 350 CFA francs, compared to 425 CFA francs in 2025. This government measure ensures availability for processing units located throughout the country. Similar measures had also been taken regarding imports of products such as tilapia in order to encourage domestic production.
