  • Cashew industry focuses on deep processing, improving product quality

    Nov 22nd, 2025

On the afternoon of November 21, at the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS 1990 - 2025), Mr. Pham Van Cong, Chairman of VINACAS, said that for nearly two decades, Vietnam has been the center of the world's cashew industry, the largest importer of raw cashews and the largest exporter of cashew nuts in the world. Vietnam's cashew industry has made a miracle from nothing to something, from weak to strong, from exporting small quantities of raw cashew nuts to becoming the world's leading cashew nut exporter with 80% of the world's export volume; at the same time consuming nearly 70% of the global raw cashew export volume; from being completely dependent on processing equipment and technology to mastering and exporting cashew processing equipment and technology to the world. The central treatment industry covers the following product lines Workers classify and process cashew nuts at the factory VINACAS has made a significant contribution as an organization that accompanies, supports and protects members and businesses; connects domestic and foreign businesses to promote market expansion; proposes new policies to the state, recommends amendments to inappropriate policies and implements state support policies and programs for members and businesses in the industry; provides market information and supports the resolution of trade disputes. However, according to the Chairman of VINACAS, the cashew industry faces many challenges. The weakness of the Vietnamese cashew industry is that it cannot take the initiative in the source of raw materials because domestic cashew trees can only stay in areas where other crops cannot be grown. Meanwhile, African countries - which supply about 70% of raw cashews to Vietnamese cashew processing factories, especially Ivory Coast (the country with the largest raw cashew production in the world) are particularly interested in developing domestic processing, limiting the export of raw cashews. More worryingly, in 2024, Ivory Coast and some countries will stop exporting raw cashews, causing a disruption in the supply chain, which is disadvantageous for Vietnamese cashew processing enterprises. The central treatment industry covers the following product lines Delegates attending the Vietnam International Cashew Conference 2025 in Hanoi Faced with the above situation, VINACAS has recommended the Government and relevant agencies to amend unreasonable regulations and supplement appropriate regulations to create a clear legal corridor for the cashew industry to develop in order to improve and perfect processing technology and equipment; strongly shift to processing products with high added value, serving end consumers. Along with that, it is necessary to strengthen trade promotion, connect and expand import and export markets; continue to promote the success of 2 annual activities under the National Trade Promotion Program, which are the International Cashew Conference in the country and organize trade promotion delegations abroad. This will aim at two major goals: strongly developing the processing of high value-added products (deep processing), meeting the diverse needs of the world market; gaining a worthy position in the global cashew value chain; at the same time, developing the domestic market. Next, the cashew industry will fundamentally develop raw material areas in the direction of quality and efficiency; creating a proactive position in the source of raw materials for processing.
