Cambodian cashew producers are seeking to secure larger and more stable markets after buyers at a recent business-to-business (B2B) dialogue indicated potential demand for 144,000 metric tonnes of raw cashew nuts (RCN). The dialogue, organised by the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC), brought together about 40 participants, including cashew producers, agricultural cooperatives, processors, traders, buyers and financial institutions to strengthen market linkages. Royal Delight View from India indicated potential demand for up to 50,000 tonnes, while Olam Outspan Cambodia and a Chinese processor operating in the Kampong Som Special Economic Zone each indicated requirements of about 30,000 tonnes. Other potential buyers included Khmer Agro Cashew, Pinex Agro, Nut and Nest Enterprises and Mirarth Agri Tech. The discussions focused on connecting farmers and cooperatives directly with buyers, meeting standardised quality requirements, contract farming and payment arrangements, and assessing cooperatives’ capacity to supply large orders. CAC said producers and cooperatives that meet premium quality standards could receive a 3% price incentive above standard market prices, potentially encouraging improvements in farm-level quality control. Farmers also called for stronger buyer involvement in quality management and clearer payment arrangements, including Ex Works (EXW) and Free on Board (FOB) terms, as well as greater price stability. Financial institutions including Canadia Bank, Bank of China and AMK Microfinance discussed financing and money-transfer services to improve access to capital for producers and businesses. CAC said it aims to maintain a steady supply flow of at least 30% of RCN to help stabilise farmer prices and support a more balanced relationship between producers and processors.
