The Mozambique Almond Institute, IP, held a technical meeting on August 20th with the District Services for Economic Activities (SDAE) and district supervisors of Gaza to discuss the Cashew Development Program 2025-2034 and the Integrated Cashew Tree Management (MIC) for the 2026 campaign. The main objective of the meeting was to present the mechanisms that will guide the gradual withdrawal of the subsidy for Chemical Treatment granted to producers under the PDC (Program for the Development of Cashew Trees). This measure aims to reduce producers' dependence on state support, encouraging them to adopt a range of private options for activities such as pruning, cleaning, and chemical treatment of cashew trees, as well as strengthening the producers' own capacity to carry out these tasks. During the meeting, an update was also presented on the chemical treatment of cashew trees for the 2026 campaign, with the aim of gathering contributions and feedback from the districts regarding the ongoing process. The session was led by the IAM delegate in Gaza, Sérgio Domingos Uique, and included the participation of IAM technicians, SPAE representatives, SDAE Directors, and cashew supervisors from the districts of Mandlakazi, Chibuto, Chongoene, Bilene, Chókwè, and Limpopo, totaling 19 participants. On that occasion, the Delegate highlighted the need to redouble efforts to ensure that the goal of treating 700,000 cashew trees in this campaign is achieved, despite the challenges arising from the new approach introduced by the PDC 2025-2034.
