Poriem MLA Deviya Rane pitched for raising the minimum suppoort price for cashew nurs, stating that many families earn a livelihood on the crop. Rane said that cashew plantations occupy the largest area among horticultural crops in Goa. “We must increase the minimum support price of cashew as many families in Sattari, Pernem, Canacona and Dharbandora primarily eke out a living on cashew production, ..she said. Rane said that farmers deserve better returns as they toil hard in their plantations, and stressed on increasing production using latest methods. She was speaking at the one-day district-level seminar on cashew crop organised by the directorate of cashew nut and cocoa development board Kochi, directorate of agriculture Goa, through the Sattari Taluka Darmers Service Co-Op Society at Valpoi recently. The seminar was presided over by the director of research Venkatesh Hubali and director of agriculture Nevil Alphonso in the presence of Valpoi municipal council chairperson Shaizin Shaikh, deputy chairperson Anil Katkar, ZP member Sagun Wadkar, Pandurang Gawas and zonal agricultural officer Vishwanath Gawas. The seminar focused on planting and management of cashew plants.
